Applications Of The Total Fertility Rate
from: Maxx Family LifeThe total fertility rate is a calculation based on a several factors that allow statisticians to develop data to aid several different types of research.
Here a few examples of how understanding the fertility rate in a given location often makes a major difference to the over all community.
The fertility rate is essentially a calculation derived from historical data and current statistics relating to the age ranges represented in the population of a specified geographic region. By using this data, it's possible to calculate the approximate number of children that will likely be born in the area during a particular period of time. The time frame is usually in increments of one year, two year or five year models, which allows the data to be related to the average female as well as to the community as a whole.
From the perspective of applying the fertility rate to the average female in a given location, the rate helps to project the most likely number of children likely to be produced by an a woman during the years that are considered optimum for child bearing. This type of statistic helps community planners project needs for medical facilities, schools, and other types of community services in the years and decades to come.
Understanding the potential for numerical growth in a community makes it possible to anticipate what degree of expansion, if any, will be needed in order for the community to adequately support the population.
In addition to civic planning, calculating the fertility rate can be considered when trying to understand the constantly changing face of the human dynamic. As the fertility rate for a community is compared to actual data, it can be ascertained whether or not a community is holding on to its citizens, or if the projected rate of birth indicates that people are tending to move away.
As one of the indicators of a thriving community, or one that is slowly dying, the fertility rate can be used to help community leaders turn around adverse conditions and make the area more attractive and cohesive to growth.
