The Convenience of a Home Fertility Test

from: Maxx Family Life

Couples who've been trying to conceive a child without success certainly have the need for a fertility test. The home fertility test is now an option that saves both partners from having to schedule appointments to have fertility testing.

With several variations of the home fertility test now available, it makes the procedure quite convenient. Some home tests are geared to females, while others are designed for males. There are also home test kits that include material for both genders. Though the kits aren't inexpensive, they tend to be cheaper and certainly more convenient than having to make an appointment at a clinic for a series of tests.

A man's home fertility test requires a semen sample, which can be applied to a stick similar to sticks used for measuring blood sugar. The procedure of conducting a test takes no more than an hour and a half to produce results. The fertility test determines if the man's sperm count is high enough to enable him to father children.

Obtaining a sample of follicle stimulating hormone from the cervical mucus tests the fertility of women. FSH is a prime indicator of the presence of conditions ideal for fertilization. The goal is to determine if the woman currently has a level of FSH required for conception. As with the test for men, the home fertility test for women can produce a reading in less than two hours.

Even though home fertility tests are relatively new, there are many supporters. However, it should be noted that negative results don't necessarily indicate a couple will never be able to have children. The test simply indicates the presence of factors that are inhibiting the couple's ability to product children.

Additional extensive testing under the direction of a medical practitioner will be needed to provide additional data to help determine if these factors are permanent or can be overcome with proper treatment.
