A Teddy Bear For Every Kid

from: Maxx Family Life

Children everywhere deserve to have their own teddy bear to hug when they need a best friend to help them get through the day. It's a teddy bear's duty to keep an eye on kids and watch over them when it's dark and spooky. You may be surprised to learn that many charitable organizations work towards the goal of putting a teddy bear into the hands of deserving kids.

In 2002 the Vermont Teddy Bear Company launched their Big Hero, Little Hero Program that provides a teddy bear to children across the country. Every year over 11 million children are transported by emergency services and the Vermont Teddy bear company, plus outside donations, provide specially designed 13" teddy bears to emergency service professionals for no charge. Anyone interested can be a part of this charity by buying one of these special teddy bears. The Vermont Teddy Bear Company donates two bears to an emergency service station for every teddy bear purchased. These special teddy bears are also provided to lonely senior citizens.

The Inland Hospital in Maine have also provided 600 teddy bears free of charge to children who've come in for tests, illnesses, traumas or with other patients. Thorndike press just down the road from the hospital bought the bears with money earned from a silent auction and bake sales. Thorndike decided to donate the teddy bears after a young sister of one of their employees was given a bear when she had to visit the hospital.

Have you ever considered starting a charitable teddy bear drive in your community to put more teddy bears into the arms of local children in need?

If so, the place to start is by recruiting others to help since this would probably be too large an undertaking for one person. Contact schools and churches in your area to get them involved. You can approach elementary school students and get entire classes (or schools) to work together on different ways to earn money for purchasing teddy bears.

Everyone invoved can get together to plan different ways to raise money. The possibilities are endless and can include a bowl-a-thon, walk-a-thon, bake sales, special pancake breakfasts, auctions, rummage sales, street carnivals -- all of which are excellent ways to raise money. Once you have enough cash available, you'll need to decide where you'll be distributing the teddy bears.

While raising the money, have a look around to find the best places for purchasing teddy bears, which can include both online and retail stores. This is a very rewarding experience, especially when you watch the look on a kid's face when they receive their soft, cuddly teddy, a look that's worth ten times more than the effort taken to get these bears. Every time you observe a child grabbing their teddy and hugging it tight, will be one of the happiest of your life.
