Proper Diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
from: Maxx Family LifePeople who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome are always on the lookout for different menths to try and alleviate the symptoms of this condition. Some many use special herbs and others may try mind control techniques such as hypnosis. It's surprising to see that not many people with IBS even consider going on a special diet. Perhaps this is due to a variety of reasons, one of which might be their physician's failure to provide a diet plan that might help alleviate their Irritable Bowel Syndrome suffering.
Unfortunately, another factor is there are a lot of bogus diets for irritable bowel syndrome and a lot of people out there who give and receive the wrong advice on proper dieting for IBS patients. This, of course, inevitably leads to disastrous results. Why? If you put yourself in the shoes of a person suffering from IBS and you're suffering due to the symptoms of this condition. Let's face it, you'd do almost anything to ease your pain, which, in this case means following whatever advice you come across that might help.
Since you're desperate to get rid of this illness, you'll try whatever diet is suggested. If the advice proves to be wrong, you end up having worse symptoms -- something you definitely don't want to happen.
The reality is, when it comes to Irritable Bowel Syndrome, diet is a strong factor. Eating the right foods certianly help to ease manifestations of this illness. Many people beleive every person should have their own special IBS diet, insisting that personalized diets are necessary to achieve relief. Thus people looking for a solution will pay almost any price to have someone personalize a diet for their IBS symptoms.
In fact, this isn't really necessary. Anyone dealing with Irritable Bowel Syndrome can maintain a generic diet and still enjoy its benefits. Determining the proper diet simply requires understanding of the following:
1. Think in terms of categories, rather than specifics: There's no specific food that triggers symptoms of IBS. This doesn't mean you don't have any power to control your symptoms. What you need to understand is that there are certain types of foods that will trigger your illness. You need to avoid these categories of foods:
a) High Fat Foots
b) High in insoluble fiber
c) Coffee (both caffeinated and decaf)
d) Carbonated drinks
e) Alcohol
The proper diet for irritable bowel syndrome eliminates foods in these categories because these foods tend to trigger the symptoms of IBS.
2. Substitute and Diversify: Just because you're on a diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome there's not reason for you to miss out on eating good food. The best solution is to try to find substitutes for the types of foods you have to eliminate. You do your best to vary your meals as well to avoid boredom with your diet. Always keep in mind that the diet you've settled on to deal with your IBS will only help if you commit yourself maintain it.
