How To Fix Irritable Bowel Syndrome

from: Maxx Family Life

Conditions, disorders, diseases or syndrome that have no known cause also usually lack effective cures. The best you can usually do is to find relieve or try to eliminate the symptoms in an effort to suppress the condition. This doesn't necessarily cure the condition, but only stops the symptons for a period of time.

On of these conditions is known as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Though many cases have been studied by medical and scientific communities, there has been no real cure discovered. Thus those who suffer with IBS must make the most of the resources available.

Some aspects of this conditions nature, however, have been determined. For example, we know that the intestinal tract regularly contracts and relaxes to provide proper digestion of food. When this contraction and relaxation is disturbed, you may feel either bloated, or experience constipation or diarrhea, depending on the speed and irregularity of contraction and relaxation of the muscles. This means we understand how Irritable Bowel Syndrome occurs.

However, the exact causes have yet to be discovered. There have been many leads that seem to shed light on discovering an effective cure, but since the disease is basically a functional disorder, treatments used if you know how the whole system works.

Here are some tips to help fix Irritable Bowel Syndrome:

Stress is known to relate directly to this syndrome, and so patients should try to eliminate as many stressful situations as possible or at least try to create a plan for managing stress. This advice is based on the realization that many IBS patients experience attacks after having experienced a stressful activity or during a stressful meal.

One way to deal with stress is to take up yoga, plus learn deep breathing and meditation.

The reasons why stress cause a problem for IBS patients isn't clear, but scientists knows the digestive system is in part associated with the autonomic nervous system that controls the voluntary muscles and actions in the body.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome attacks suggest that certain foods and beverages cause chemical interaction in the intestinal tract or help change the movements in the colon and may also trigger the symptoms.

Fatty foods are especially known to trigger the symptoms, so it's best to minimize the intake of foods such as ice cream or any kinds of cream-based foods, chocolate and chocolate products, caffeine found in coffee, tea and sodas, plus carbonated drinks and artificial sweeteners.

So keep track of foods that irritate your colon by keeping a journal of your daily food intake and so you can determine which foods appear to trigger the symptoms. If there are foods that cause the flare ups, you can adjust your intake and supplement them with other foods that don't have the same effects on your disorder. This provides your doctor with information that gives direction on putting together a well-designed treatment based on your personal needs. A dietician can also help to create a balanced diet for you as well.

Along with avoiding problematic foods and stress management, you should also practice healthy drinking. Drink plenty of water along with an increase of fiber intake should help in lessening your susceptibility to reoccurrence of symptoms. This is the most effective when the main symptom is constipation.

Once you've worked on eliminating the symptoms of IBS, it's likely you'll experience a temporary stoppage. This is the time to seek your doctor's advice to create a more long term plan that will help to discontinue the repeated occurrence of the disorder.
