Acupuncture During Pregnancy
from: Maxx Family LifeNew mothers need to be careful about their nutrition and how much exercise they do, and a many are turning regular acupuncture treatments often scheduled about once a month for forty-five minutes or so. When the ninth month arrives there is much preparation for the coming of the baby as well as getting the mother ready for labor, and these treatments may be weekly.
Treatments during pregnancy help to keep the mother in the best possible health, as they will quickly disperse toxins the mother may develop during those pregnant months. Treatments will help to keep the environment in the womb balanced, wchich means the baby can grow and flourish without complications.
An advantages of acupuncture treatments while pregnant is that it reduces morning sickness. Studies have shown the periods of morning sickness are shorter and also occur less frequently. A common ailment during the second trimester is heartburn, and acupuncture works to minimize the effects. As well, other more serious conditions including edema and high blood pressure can be treated with acupuncture, but it's important that a physician is also involved since these could be symptoms of possible major complications.
During the last trimester, a pregnant woman often experiences backache and joint pain, since the joints loosening in preparation for labor. Acupuncture will help reduce the pain, and also influence the energy in the mother's body which helps to align the baby properly when it's time for delivery.
Acupuncture is helpful during labor, and might be used to induce labor if women is overdue. When a mother uses acupuncture to induce labor, they often experience a nice distinct feeling of warmth and relaxation. Since acupuncture techniques releases stress and anxiety, it's a major benefit for a woman dealing with labor, a big improvement over the feelings they experience when a woman is injected with oxytocin to start labor. Acupuncture is able to increase the mother's energy during labor as well.
Once the labor is completed, an acupuncture practitioner's job isn't done. Some women bleed after delivery, and inserting an acupunture needle into the proper point can stop the blood flow. Regular acupuncture treatments for several weeks after delivery will usually minimize depression, anxiety, and help the new mother's body regain balance faster.
Midwives are starting to get trained in acupuncture techniques. Most states have developed a certification program for acupuncturists, and women planning to use acupuncture during their pregnancy ask for this certificate. There's also a national certification program for the use of herbs, another optional treatment that can be use in addition to acupuncture.
Often they go hand in hand, but neither requires the other to be effective. Acupuncture is a wonderful technique for an expectant mother, and a using well-trained and certified acupuncturist and midwife is the perfect way to start for both mother and baby.
