Adult and Vocational Education Teachers

from: Maxx Family Life

Vocational education teachers are instructors who teach vocational courses. Others may teach non-vocational courses if they hold a graduate degree. Normally, instructors with practical experience are hired to do vocational training.

The nature of work of vocational education teachers may vary in different areas. There are adult vocational-technical education teachers, adult remedial education teachers and adult continuing education teachers.

Adult vocational-technical education instructors provide training and instruction for careers or jobs that do not require a degree in college. Vocational courses such as welding, automotive, cosmetology and other job-specific programs may be offered in vocational-technical school or in post-secondary institutions such as career colleges.

Adult education teacher may also involve in giving instructions on new or upgraded skills such as new computer software and technological advances in automotive, electronics and HVAC to students.

Adult remedial teachers provide training and teaching materials in fundamental education courses to individuals who are dropped out in college or those who want to update their skills.

There are vocational education teachers that teach vocational courses that can be used for personal enrichment. They are adult continuing education teachers that provide training and teaching in culinary arts, performing arts, photography, writing, surveying, finance business and other personal enrichment programs.

Vocational education teachers may bring the instruction and training session in classrooms or in laboratories where they can demonstrate the proper techniques of certain skills.

Recently, vocational education teachers include academic materials in teaching that has connection with the technical skills. For instance, a teacher who provides instruction in automotive course may integrate the principles of math and physics. With the integration of academic principles and technical techniques for a particular vocational course, students can be able to apply the instructions in the real world. They can use the principles that are included in a specific course during real application and demonstration.

Vocational education teachers, aside from providing instructions and techniques can also act as critiques to the works of their students. They can give guidance and evaluation until their students attain the standards as set by them and required by the trade.

Vocational education teachers may also be responsible for the job placement of their students and/or trainee. Career colleges and vocational technical schools may have programs that would assist their graduates during job placement. The apprenticeship program of most vocational schools has a role in the transition of a student from school training to work. Most vocation schools provide information including profiles and job requirements of prospective employers. Other institutions have formed partnerships with some employers by being manpower suppliers for those employers.

Vocational education teachers may provide training and instructions to young individuals and adults. There are teachers that do this profession as part-time job while others engage in jobs related to the vocational course they teach.
