Home School 101
from: Maxx Family LifeAre you a parent who believes your kids will benefit more if they learn their schooling directly from you? Do you really belive you can be a better teacher than children's school teachers? Ara you really ready for the challenges of homeschooling?
Here's a few guidelines to help you determine the answers to these questions.
First, how can you determine if you're ready? Consider the following:
1. Are you ready to give up your time? Remember, homeschooling isn't just about reading books to your kids. It requires the usual lesson planning, papers, projects and even field trips!
2. Are you ready to give up your work? Once you've decided to educate your kids yourself, you're going to hav to surrender your career, since juggling both is almost an impossible task.
3. Can you still handle the laundry and other household chores? If you can, that's great. If not, you might have to hire some help from a maid or cleaning service.
4. Are your kids okay with the idea of homeschooling? If your child isn't on board about being homeschooled right from the start, then you may have think twice about it. It could be just as hard getting your kid out of bed and to the study desk.
5. Are you capable of teaching? This is probably the most important question to answer. Can you handle the pressures of being a teacher? Are you patient enough? If not, you may have to hire a tutor. However, if the answers is "yes", then why not go for it!
Here are some tips to take into consideration once you're officially launched your homeschooling program:
1. Determine what learning style works best for your child.
2. Definitely don't be too hard on him/her. Be as flexible as possible.
3. As well, don't be too hard on yourself. You're not looking for perfection, just do the best teaching job you're capable of doing.
4. Have faith in your kid and do everything you can to boost his/her self-confidence.
5. Allow your kids to love school. Homeschooling might very well be the way to do just that.
6. Concentrate on the curriculum and never underestimate it.
7. Get yourself fully educated on all the homeschool laws in your state or province and never break any of the rules.
8. Here's the best piece of advice -- never consider giving up.
In the end, if you believe this responsibility will turn out to be too tedious, you can always consider other options? Perhaps you'd be better off hiring a tutor.
