Social Concerns of Homeschooling
from: Maxx Family LifeParents who are considering homeschooling usually have deep concerns regarding the proper training of social skills of their children. Some critics say that since people need to hone their social skills with regular interaction with a variety of other people, a homeschooling environment, where social interaction is limited, is detrimental to a child's growth and development. However, research studies have discovered otherwise.
In fact, too many children placed into a fiercely competitive school environment lack the confidence to even carry on a conversation. These children show little genuine interest in the topic of conversation and don't know how to interact with people of various age groups, especially their elders.
On the other hand, children who learn at home seem to be more aware of the implications and purpose of their learning. They tend to ask intelligent questions and make accurate observations. Since most children begin their life by imitating their parents, homeschooled children therefore pick up the best qualities they see in their parents, while, at the same time, they're protected from the detrimental influences of their peers.
Homeshcooled children are often better equipped with the skills necessary to face the world. The much more positive reinforcement that occurs in a homeschooling environment, as opposed to being abandoned, embarrassed, ignored or bullied in a normal school environment, tends to strengthen their self-esteem. Children often turn out to be better balanced and well-rounded as they progress into adulthood.
