Baby Parenting Requires Love, Nurturing, and Educating
from: Maxx Family LifeMotherhood is a much different experience than being single and carefree. Many women require a major change in lifestyle after childbirth and may often feel inadequate in terms of parenting a baby. Baby parenting can be a challenge, especially for new mothers who's still coping with the postpartum changes in her body and taking care of the baby.
You must take parenting a baby seriously, while at the same time not putting so much pressure on yourself. Babies need a lot of your attention, first, because they can't feed, clean, or dress themselves, and their mother (or guardian) is instrumental in keep a baby's development on the right tract. This requires stimulating your baby in order for him/her to reach developmental milestones in the areas of cognitive, social, physical, and language.
Unlike parenting older children, parenting a baby is physically challenging for many new parents. Interupted sleep is normal since babies up to the 12th month wake up once or twice during the middle of the night for their feedings.
It's important for you, as a new parent, to learn about the monthly development of your baby to ensure he/she is on the right track of normal development. Baby parenting is also emotionally challenging, entertaining, and sometimes frustrating. What's more exciting than seeing your baby roll over for the first time (which babies typically handle by the third or fourth month), take his/her first step, or say his first word? At the same time, it can be frustrating trying to soothe a fussy baby.
From newborn to 6 months, baby parenting may be focused on doing age-appropriate activities that are both entertaining and educational for your baby. You can stimulate his/her cognitive development by placing images (showing the contrast of the colors black, white, and red) in strategic locations where your baby can easily see them.
Studies have shown that babies in this age range aren't able to discern the complex colors of the spectrum, and therefore, only see these three colors. You'll be delighted to see that your baby will actually focus their eyes on these images. You're actually helping to expand their attention span. In addition, it's important to read aloud to your baby for 20 minutes each day.
Parenting a baby means providing your baby with the assurance of protection and nurturing, and making sure he/she develops to their fullest potential. Studies show that babies who grew up feeling loved had a higher level of self-esteem, social skills, and intellectual competence. Babies are certainly bundles of joy, and part of your responsibility as a parent is to give your baby a safe place to live, proper care, and unconditional love.
