Gingham Baby Bedding
from: Maxx Family LifeGingham baby bedding is a very practical fabric as well as soft. It makes a great choice for almost any cradle no matter what size of the cradle or crib. Let's go back in time a bit to explore gingham and you'll come to understand the practical nature of this material.
The name gingham is strange what is it? Well, “Gingham" is derived from the Italian word "ging-gang" and simply means striped but it also has the origin of in fact, Indonesian and coming into the Dutch.
So what is gingham fabric? It's basically just dyed cotton yarn of a medium or fine grade and the coloring is always along the grain. It was imported back in the 1700's and at that time it was a striped fabric.
By the middle of 1800's, it was woven into a plaid pattern or a checked pattern. The colors favored seemed to be white and blue. Gingham fabric has no right nor a wrong side with regard to color.
Gingham is currently used for beachwear, blouses for children and for women, aprons, handkerchiefs, sleep wear, curtains, bedspreads. It's used to design dresses or as a fashion test fabric along with muslin, and in baby bedding.
Care of Gingham is simple but and it washes well. However, if a cheaper grade of gingham material is used, for example with baby bedding, it might shrink a lot unless labeled preshrunk.
It makes a great bed set because it resists wrinkle so well thus it should never need ironed. Your baby’s bedding will always look fresh with very little effort aside from well an occasional possible spit up.
Gingham bedding is usually made of a cotton/polyester blend and often features white and an otherwise contrasting color. It makes for soft yet strong and serviceable baby bedding.
It reminds many of what some grandmas used to throw over a baby. A Gingham baby bedding set is a fine colorful addition to your child’s baby bedding needs.
